FRENCH-AMERICAN LOVE STORY OVER NORMANDY-DEAUVILLE CELEBRATING FILMS FOR 50 YEARS
It was in 1891 that a certain Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931) modestly produced the first films in the United States in his workshop. Four years later, the first public presentation took place in New York. Then, the center of film production moved from the East Coast to the West Coast, and Hollywood was born, the nerve center of the world of cinema. A century and a decade later, we live in France, in Deauville, in Normandy, where American cinema will be celebrated this year 20224 and will begin its fiftieth anniversary.

This is how Lionel Chouchan and André Halimi wanted to extend this dialogue of silent eyes further to America, a major player in the 7th art, whose preeminence continues to be denied more than a century after the beginnings of Hollywood. Supported in the mid-1970s by the mayor of Deauville Michel d’Ornano and Lucien Barrière, founder of the group that bears his name, they launched the Deauville American Film Festival in 1975, "When the lights come back on, the images persist. The illusion of movement in 24 shots per second has worked. We must never lose sight of the fact that cinema is above all a game of looks, where the eye of the filmmaker comes to meet that of the spectator." (Source American Film Festival Deauville)

In Deauville, eyes remain constantly open to extend the dialogue. "According to American Film Festival Deauville.
